Company History
________________________________

Russell G. Brown co-founded DP Associates in 1970. A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Russell moved to Huntsville in 1965 and joined Northrop Grumman as an information processing analyst on projects for Marshall Space Flight Center. Five years later, DP Associates was incorporated as one of the first information technology companies in the southeastern United States dedicated to serving the needs of select government and commercial clientele.

Under Russell’s stewardship and direction as President and CEO, DP Associates grew into an organization known for excellent customer service and top-flight execution. DP began its track record of achievement right out of the gate as an 8(a) business certified by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Shortly after formation, the company bid for and won a General Services Administration contract to provide technical support to the Federal Data Processing Center in Huntsville, AL (at the time, one of the largest contracts ever awarded by the federal government under the Small Business Act). By 1978, DP Associates had successfully graduated from the 8(a) program and established itself as a trusted and skilled contractor/subcontractor. The Company soon found itself at the beginning of a twenty-two year support effort on the NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center Shuttle Project providing cost modeling, professional analysis, software development and configuration management. The company’s relationship with NASA continues to this day as DP was recently awarded the Transition and Retirement Support Services MSFC contract: a true testament to the Company’s longevity and continued ability to meet the evolving needs of its clients.

Over the years, DP Associates has received numerous received awards of excellence from the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce, The University of Alabama at Huntsville, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the State of Alabama, and multiple civic organizations. An equally dedicated civil servant, Russell was active in the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce for more than three decades (serving as board chair in 2000) and was a member of the Huntsville Planning Commission for 12 years with 10 of those as chairman. He served on numerous committees and task forces for Huntsville City Schools, Alabama A&M University, Drake State Technical College, Oakwood University and UAH. In 1990, Russell chaired the Presidential Search Committee for Alabama A&M and was elected to the UAH Foundation board of trustees in 1995. He was also a perennial board member of Leadership Alabama, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center and Huntsville Hospital. From 2006 until 2010, Russell served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Huntsville Hospital, and in 2009 was named Alabama Hospital Association Trustee of the Year.

In April of 2010, Russell G. Brown departed this world after a heroic battle with cancer. Though greatly missed, Russell’s spirit and legacy live on through DP Associates, its current leadership, and the company’s ongoing commitment to excellence.
